After making the decision to return to Los Angeles, where Joey's journey in the tanning salon industry began, he and his partner, along with their two dogs, Gizmo and Wilur, relocated and sublet a pool house. Joey secured a position at the renowned Sunset Tan, known for its appearance on E!'s hit TV show. It was during his time at Sunset Tan that he crossed paths with a local business owner who owned a competing salon chain, Hollywood Tans. Following a lengthy discussion, Joey was presented with an opportunity to collaborate with the owner and contribute to the expansion of the company, with the goal of establishing it as the premier indoor tanning option on the west coast. After two years of dedicated effort and the addition of a second location, they rebranded the business as Sun Studio LA, marking a significant milestone in their journey within the tanning industry.
After relocating to Ohio, Joey embarked on the establishment of his inaugural tanning salon. Sun of a Beach, situated in the central Ohio region of Powell, emerged as a boutique salon catering to the local community. The salon's offerings encompassed four tiers of UV tanning, along with a comprehensive high-pressure UVA bed. Sun of a Beach swiftly garnered popularity among residents and garnered a particularly strong following among high school students in the Powell area. The salon's commitment to providing top-notch tanning services and its strategic location in Powell contributed to its rapid ascent as a favored destination for tanning enthusiasts. With its array of tanning options and focus on customer satisfaction, Sun of a Beach positioned itself as a reputable establishment within the local tanning industry.
Upon receiving a job opportunity in Manhattan, Joey made the decision to return to New York City in 2003. This move not only allowed him to take advantage of the professional prospects in Manhattan but also provided him with the opportunity to further pursue his Broadway acting career, which he had been dedicated to since the age of 13. Managing Portofino Sun in the East Village area of the city proved to be an incredible experience, particularly due to the diverse clientele, which included many celebrities. This role not only allowed Joey to showcase his managerial skills but also provided him with valuable exposure to the entertainment industry. His time at Portofino Sun was characterized by professionalism and dedication, and it served as a stepping stone for his continued success in both the business and entertainment spheres.
Joey's journey into the tanning industry began when he was hired at City Tan, the first tanning salon he ever worked at. Situated in the heart of Studio City, CA, City Tan catered to high-end residents and celebrity clientele. This marked the beginning of Joey's career in the tanning industry, where he would gain valuable experience and knowledge.
